Meat Feast

As our safari vehicle closed in on the legendary Nkuhuma pride of northern Sabi Sands, I came across this powerful visceral scene. A buffalo had just been killed, and the pride was gorging themselves.

The power dynamics were all on display with every individual fending for themselves. In the centre of 14 lions, 2 pairs of eyes pierced the scene, as if to say hands off my meat. The roaring, the sniping, the biting of the flesh; to see an entire pride eating at the same time was an extraordinary experience.
